Build a Seam - Week 27 - Double row of Cretan Stitch

As I said in the last post, Jo's "SEAMS like fun....`book has already inspired me for this week`s BAS Challenge stitch. While looking at Jo`s book, I was especially fascinated by a couple of seam treatments that had little boxes in them - what fun! I got the good old reading glasses out and had another look and realized that the boxes were created by making two rows of cretan stitch, one above the other. So, by way of a bit of an explanation, here is the seam being worked up. You might have to enlarge it to see, but when you do you will see I have stitched the top row of cretan stitch completely and am about halfway along the second row. I did this so you can see that, yes, it is cretan stitch, and then see how the second row creates the little boxes. How much fun will we have with this! I also left the tiger tape on so you can see how I most often use it - I apply it just above my stitching to help me eye up the size of the stitches. In this case, I have taken a pen and marked on the tape the spacing I want to use, and yet I have still managed to mess some up! If you are wondering, I left the thread card in the photo in case you were curious about which thread I had used for this!

So here is the picture of the completed double row of cretan stitches which will be the framework for this week`s BAS seam treatment. I hope you have fun with this one. I am already having fun - I am finding myself singing away as I stitch, `Little boxes on the hillside....` I am likely showing my age but if anyone else remembers it, all together now! `...and they`re all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same!`

Kerry, I love what you have done-gorgeous- I can't wait to try it. Love that you also showed us your use of tiger tape (for some odd reason, I always want to call it monkey tape-lol) and left the thread card for us to learn from. But...help? I can't quite make out what size treasure braid you used. It is exquisite. Can you 'spill' the beans?
Thanks,
Susan

Giveaway Day! (CLOSED)

I am very happy to be joining in the Giveaway Day through Sew, Momma, Sew .  I have chosen to share one of my finds from a shopping trip, or treasure hunts as I think of them.  This is an antique sewing box -  I could not resist it when I saw it for sale!  Were you able to guess the item from the sneak peek earlier in the week? The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high).  From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. In the bottom of the sewing box there are more beautiful hand-painted blossoms and an attached pincushion.  I hope you are as charmed by this little box as I was when I found it and that you will enter my giveaway.  I will be pleased to mail internationally so everyone is invited to enter. To enter, visit my Etsy shop and then come back and leave me a...

Giveaway!

I am feeling like celebrating for various reasons! Firstly, this is my 100th post on my blog and that seems worthy of a little celebration. Secondly, I can now count the days on this year's camping season on my fingers! It has been a busy summer out here at the campground and I am anticipating getting home for a rest - I am so looking forward to hot showers, a real bed, good lighting and my comfy stitching chair! So, I have decided to celebrate with a giveaway! I think these are great fun and have put my name down for several and even won once so it feels like time to be on the hosting end for a change. I have decided to give away a squishie of items for stitching, embellishing and inspiration. I can't show you a picture right now because of the twist I have come up with! I'll start out with a squishie containing some fun items like an oya or two, specialty threads and fancy yarns, a silkie and a couple other things. For every person who puts their name in the draw by leavi...

400 Post Giveaway

Well, gotta love those nice round numbers like 400! It is always a good excuse to celebrate by having a little giveaway. Every year I anticipate the publication of Just CrossStitch's Christmas Ornament issue. I start watching the newsstands about September and worry I won't manage to find a copy before they are sold out. This little obsession of mine probably explains how I managed to buy two copies! So, I would like to share one with my readers. If you aren't familiar with this magazine - it really is a "keeper"! Seventy-five designers have each provided a Christmas ornament with instructions. These small designs are often useful for making cross stitch cards or as motifs for cq using waste canvas as well. So, this time the draw will be a little different. Enter by leaving a comment on this post - that gives you one entry. If you follow my blog, leave another comment saying so - that gives you a second entry. If you post about the giveaway on your blog, leave a t...
