Angel Work All Finished

We had a round robin on the CQI Novice group that I was acting as angel for.  The angel takes up the slack and stitches for anyone who has to drop out or has fallen behind.  Well, in this group of five ladies, two of them dropped out right after they mailed their blocks!  So, I was up to my ears in angel stitching for awhile there. Happily, though, I have mailed off the last three blocks to their owners and this round robin is not sucessfully completed.  This first block (above) was Ely's.  I had already stitched on once and finished it up when it came back to me for the second time. There were an extraordinary amount of seams on this block, or at least it seemed so!  I added a trim to cover one seam where the fabrics were fraying apart and stitched the rest of the remaiing seams.  I added a few more motifs - some lace flowers, a button cluster, and a bead motif. 

My favourite part of what I did on this block is still the spider and web.  I thought they looked quite realistic when done so was very pleased with them.
 This block belonged to Gina, one of the ladies who had to drop out of the round robin. Once again, it was mostly seams that needed to be done at the end so I finished them up.
This breathtaking block was made by Lisa.  Her colours were wonderful and she included in her package she mailed around ribbons, threads and beads to coordinate in case the stitchers didn't have anything suitable in their own stash - very thoughtful!  I think we used almost all the laces - they were so lovely!  On this one I added some braid, couched ribbons, silk ribbon embroidery, laces, and, of course, more seams.
This is the end of my angel stitching for awhile - I got a little burned out on this one!   lol

They turned out so beautiful Kerry, I can see why you got a little burnt out, but the end result is so stunning. I so badly want to be in your league one day, and am getting the practice on these DYB's. Thanks for your inspiration!!

BAS - Week 73 - Raised Fishbone Leaves (and Tutorial)

It took me a little while to get this one ready - lots of photos in the tutorial.  This Build a Seam (BAS) Challenge is for Raised Fishbone Stitch leaves.  With a little practice you will get much better results than I did - this was my first attempt on these as well.  For some reason I have basically avoided fishbone stitch but no time like the present to learn!  I hope you enjoy this BAS Challenge! Begin by marking your leaves on your fabric.  You will find it handy to have an outline to follow while stitching.  I used a mechanical pencil to lightly mark mine - hopefully not so lightly you can`t see them! To begin, bring your needle up at the point of the leaf and take it down again about halfway down on the center vein. Now come up again directly to the left of that, on the outside edge of the leaf. Take your needle down again just barely to the right and down from the top leaf point. And bring it up again just barely to the left and down of the point...

Giveaway!

I am feeling like celebrating for various reasons! Firstly, this is my 100th post on my blog and that seems worthy of a little celebration. Secondly, I can now count the days on this year's camping season on my fingers!
