Whazzit Contest - Day 6


Today is day 6 of the Whazzit contest and today we will have a winner if we haven`t got one yet.  In that spirit, I am giviung you three last photos today.  This first one is taken looking down at the machine.

There are even more clues in this second photo:  a large cone of yarn and a hand crank!

If that didn`t give you the answer, what you can see coming out of the bottom of the machine should definitely give it all away! 
Once again, the rules are simple and here they are.  One entry per day per person.  When I return home I will moderate all the comments and determine who had the first correct answer.  The prize is a mystery but will be comprised of stash-building goodies purchased on my Colorado trip.

My kids were so excited that we think we had it right with our fist guess:) They were so sure we didn't guess again after our first guess. We will see:):):)

It looks like my grans knitting cylinder. I also have a small one that has a whole in the middle and it makes knitted tubes.

Very ironic that just yesterday my sister and I toured a turn of the century home of a past Govenor and they had one of these. The tour guide said it was a knitting machine for socks. I was amazed at the intricacy of this machine and wondered who the person was that figured this out. There just happened to be a sample of a sock made with the machine and it was amazing that it was so perfect!

I am very happy to be joining in the Giveaway Day through Sew, Momma, Sew .  I have chosen to share one of my finds from a shopping trip, or treasure hunts as I think of them.  This is an antique sewing box -  I could not resist it when I saw it for sale!  Were you able to guess the item from the sneak peek earlier in the week? The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high).  From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. BAS - Week 79 - Feather Stitch Variations

I have about the next twenty BAS stitches scheduled and by happy coincidence this week's BAS is a series of Feather Stitch variations which coincide with this week's TAST stitch if you are following.  So, we can hit two birds with one stone!  These hardly look like feather stitch but they are.  They are created by making the "v"'s of the feather stitch vertical on the inside.  Very simple to do but a different look to an old stitch.  The second variation is created by doing two feather stitches at a time on each side, again making sure the inside of your "v"s are vertical and line up as much as possible. Same thing again in this one except they are in series of three.  To me these have the look of stitching on old crazy quilts so they are nice to add to your stable of stitch variations.  Hope you  enjoy them and have fun!
