Whazzit Contest - Day 6

Today is day 6 of the Whazzit contest and today we will have a winner if we haven`t got one yet.  In that spirit, I am giviung you three last photos today.  This first one is taken looking down at the machine.

There are even more clues in this second photo:  a large cone of yarn and a hand crank!

If that didn`t give you the answer, what you can see coming out of the bottom of the machine should definitely give it all away!
Once again, the rules are simple and here they are.  One entry per day per person.  When I return home I will moderate all the comments and determine who had the first correct answer.  The prize is a mystery but will be comprised of stash-building goodies purchased on my Colorado trip.

no doubt I'm last in, but, hey, a hand-cranked knitting machine! Who woulda thunk it!

Well it looks to me like your gonna end up with a nice comfy pair of socks. I"m curious, where the hell did you ever get a machine like that?! Debbie (Maine)

It looks like my grans knitting cylinder. I also have a small one that has a whole in the middle and it makes knitted tubes.

How about a circular knitting machine? Looks like a sock coming out of the bottom.

Very ironic that just yesterday my sister and I toured a turn of the century home of a past Govenor and they had one of these. The tour guide said it was a knitting machine for socks. I was amazed at the intricacy of this machine and wondered who the person was that figured this out. There just happened to be a sample of a sock made with the machine and it was amazing that it was so perfect!
