I have just finished my embellishment of this gorgeous block of Alice's. The colours and silkie were so wonderful that it was a pleasure to work on and an Under the Sea theme is always fun. I started by adding two lace shells at the base and a lace frond up one side of the silkie, attached with small pearls. These gorgeous pieces of hand dyed lace are from Nicki Lee's Etsy shop - they look so pretty and set the whole tone for the block. I went around the other two sides of the silkie with an outline of pearls. There is a school of simple embroidered fish as a seam treatment at the top. They are each made with a detached chain stitch and a fly stitch. I used three colours of Glorianna Princess Petite Perle for the feather stitch seaweed on the left hand side and added some charms and shells at the base of it. More seaweed was made by couching down a couple types of fuzzy yarn and I hid a glass bead fish in that. I hope Alice likes what I have done.
So, here it is... finished! Once again, this was a workshop taught by Kim Beamish. I love her projects- they are such fun stitches. Managed to frame this one myself with a thrift store frame complete with matts that I repurposed and I am very pleased with how it turned out. I will be stitching this again because I messed up several times and want to do it again and get it right. Even with the mistakes I made though - I love it!
