A Bit of This and That

Just a bit of this and that today... My-oh-my! I do love my thrift store. If I keep bringing things home though I am going to need a bigger house!
My latest find was three of these button sample cards at $2 each. At the price of buttons now I think it is a bargain. Some of them are quite nice and they are all so nicely colour coordinated!



As requested in one of the recent comments - here is a photo of my nails. Yes - this is my little vanity! All summer I work like a man and all winter I pamper myself with girlie things. What does this lifestyle give me? Man hands with girlie nails! lol

And since I am so totally off topic today I thought I would share a couple pictures of the fur-kids. Duke the bloodhound is very photogenic and is starting to become a real ham! And, as you can see, the new kittens are fitting right in.

Great find on the button cards! I have "man hands" too but get no girlie breaks. We can't all be princesses. :) Love the bloodhound and kitten. So cute.

Wow those buttons were a great deal. what a variety and for such a good price. I think your kitten and dog are so cute all cuddled together!!! I didn't think your hands looked manly, Love the nails!!!!

Wow! Those buttons are great .... I'm drooling all over my keyboard. The dog/kitty photos are so darned cute, you should have a caption contest. The first one could be "Can't Santa read? I said pretty hat NOT kitty cat". Susie

Great thrift store finds! And the fur kids are adorable. Had to laugh about your saying you have "man hands" with girly nails. You have very strong and talented hands with beautiful nails!

Love the button cards, your fantastic fancy nails -- but they are no competition for Duke and the kitty. Animal and baby photos always win.

Love the buttons. I keep a bag in some state of "fill" and do not allow myself to go to thrift store without the donation... Something has to go out before something can come in!!!!! I just live with ragged, jagged nails on sad hands with missing or damaged fingers... Go girlie girl!! Gerry

Hi Eileene - the button cards came from the thrift store. I think they are sample cards sent to stores so they can decide what to order.

The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high).  From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. Save the Stitches Finished!

 I finally finished my "Covid Project"!  I worked on Elizabeth Almond's beautiful blackwork sampler design, "Save the Stitches" for much longer than I would like to admit...  I have to say though that it was very satisfying every step of the way.  I have not been able to concentrate on stitching in any significant way for some time now due to chronic pain and the dullness that the pain meds cause but having finished this piece gives me hope for my stitching future.  I also love the framing which was lovingly done by MJ of "Art Effects" in High River, Alberta.

BAS - Week 79 - Feather Stitch Variations

I have about the next twenty BAS stitches scheduled and by happy coincidence this week's BAS is a series of Feather Stitch variations which coincide with this week's TAST stitch if you are following.  So, we can hit two birds with one stone!  These hardly look like feather stitch but they are.  They are created by making the "v"'s of the feather stitch vertical on the inside.  Very simple to do but a different look to an old stitch.  The second variation is created by doing two feather stitches at a time on each side, again making sure the inside of your "v"s are vertical and line up as much as possible. Same thing again in this one except they are in series of three.  To me these have the look of stitching on old crazy quilts so they are nice to add to your stable of stitch variations.  Hope you  enjoy them and have fun!
