My ATCs for the Annual EAC Swap

LOL - Well, this photo is a bit of a tease, isn't it?  You can't tell much from this other than that I got them done!  This is the second year I have sent ATCs in for the Embroidery Association of Canada's annual swap.  It is so much fun receiving ones back from all over the country that I didn't mind burning a little midnight oil to meet the deadline.

All seven are in a series I called "Crazy Bits" - because that is actually what they are - bits of crazy quilting.  I had a round robin block I did not know what to do with.  The individual elements of the block were wonderful but somehow it didn't seem to mesh into a cohesive whole.  (This is the difficulty I most often encounter in my crazy quilting)  So, I sacrificed the block and used them for ATCs.  I am glad I did because it gave all the individual bits of stitching a chance to shine on their own.  This first one featured my favourite seam treatment from the block with staggered chain stitch scallops.

 Number 2 in the series had wonderful silk ribbon embroidery sunflowers and a sweet little bird charm.
The third one had more of the sunflowers and a bit more of the feather stitch seam treatment with the beads.  I love the flower beads on the edge of the scalloped seam treatment.

How could you not love this large swan charm gliding across the waves?  I also just loved the silk ribbon catstails.

This mass of flowers doesn't need any further explanation - a blaze of colour in this garden!

This part of the block was much more elegant and serene than the rest and I love the way it gets a chance to shine on its own now.

Last, but certainly not least, a lovely embroidered "K" for Kerry, framed in silk ribbon roses. 

I don't think this is a cheat, cannibalizing a block to create a series of Artist Trading Cards. What do you think?

BAS - Week 73 - Raised Fishbone Leaves (and Tutorial)

It took me a little while to get this one ready - lots of photos in the tutorial.  This Build a Seam (BAS) Challenge is for Raised Fishbone Stitch leaves.  With a little practice you will get much better results than I did - this was my first attempt on these as well.  For some reason I have basically avoided fishbone stitch but no time like the present to learn!  I hope you enjoy this BAS Challenge! Begin by marking your leaves on your fabric.  You will find it handy to have an outline to follow while stitching.  I used a mechanical pencil to lightly mark mine - hopefully not so lightly you can`t see them! To begin, bring your needle up at the point of the leaf and take it down again about halfway down on the center vein. Now come up again directly to the left of that, on the outside edge of the leaf. Take your needle down again just barely to the right and down from the top leaf point. And bring it up again just barely to the left and down of the point...

Giveaway!

I am feeling like celebrating for various reasons! Firstly, this is my 100th post on my blog and that seems worthy of a little celebration. Secondly, I can now count the days on this year's camping season on my fingers! It has been a busy summer out here at the campground and I am anticipating getting home for a rest - I am so looking forward to hot showers, a real bed, good lighting and my comfy stitching chair!
