For Furry Friends

Well, this is what I got up to today!  I had two remnants of fleece I had picked up on my travels with doggy footprints on them.  I considered making an outfit for little Bear, one of my Pomeranians, but dd begged me not to embarrass the dog that way.  So, what I did instead was to sketch up a nice size dog bone and use up the fabric making these dog toys.

As you can see, my little remnants which totalled under .75 of a meter altogether yielded a nice pile of doggy treats.  These will go to Heaven Can Wait, a local animal shelter that does not euthanize their "unadoptable" dogs and cats.  If they are not adopted, they stay and live out their lives in the homelike surroundings of the shelter. 

Once I had cut out all the dog bones I could from the fabric, I used the scraps to make some cat toys as well.  These are modelled after one the kittens were given in their "new kitty kit" from the vet.  These will go along to Heaven Can Wait as well and hopefully they will give some fun and comfort to some animals waiting to find their "forever home".

Awwww! So cute! How thoughtful to think of the animals in the shelter and to show them a little love. Kudos.

I make these for my dogs all the time but be careful. Everything I have my hand smells on Tazzie our pom thinks it belongs to her to!! She chewed up one of my expensive shuttles last month....

Those are so adorable!!! I know dogs will love them. What a great idea to send them to a shelter. We just adopted a 2yr old, 6 pound chihuahua/rat terrier mix from a no kill shelter here in town, he along with a truck load of others were sent from kill shelters in Las Vegas to Reno. He is the cutest most cuddly boy we have ever seen, he was very underweight when we got him, but he is looking so much healthier. It was so great to adopt a pet who really needed a home. They just want loving families who will care for them.

Cute idea! I have some in black with white prints and pink with black prints...I see new dog toys for next christmas!

BAS - Week 81 - Sequin Flower with Tutorial

This Build a Seam (BAS) Challenge is a little different - not exactly a stitch per se.  It is a technique for making sequin flowers which can be a wonderful addition to a seam treatment or motif. You will need cupped sequins for this - flat ones will not work properly - and some seed beads.  Mark your fabric with a center dot and five evenly spaced dots around the outside.  Bring your needle up through one of the dots on the outside and string on one sequin (cup upwards), a bead, another sequin and two more beads.  Take your needle down through the middle dot.  Carry on making another leg in the same way on each of the other four outside dots, always going down into the center dot which will be the middle of your flower. This is what you end up with after you have done all five legs - a nice little sequin flower!  You can add a bead or two more in the center of the flower if you wish.  You can also vary the number of legs depending on the size of t...

Giveaway! (Closed Midnight Monday!)

While packing my stash for the move to the lake I found duplicates of a couple books. What can I say? It must be really appealing to buy it twice! So, I have two books to giveaway. The first one is "45 Fine & Fanciful Hats to Knit". My knitting skills aren't up to this, I'm afraid - I wish they were because it is a gorgeous book! The second book for giveaway is "Tatting Doilies & Edgings", edited by Ruth Weiss. This is a good one because it has lots of edgings that can be tatted and used for crazy quilting.
