Whose Stupid Idea Was This?

A homemade Christmas?  All the gifts to be made lovingly by hand?  Whose stupid idea was that?  Yeah, okay, it was mine!  Now here we are exactly one month before Christmas and all I have to show for this plan is a lot of ideas and piles of supplies! 

The question now remains - "Can I pull this rabbit out of the hat?"

I'm not sure what the answer to this one is!  Hopefully, yes, I will manage to pull it off!  One way or another, I will have a lot of stitching and craft projects to show you in the next little while - either the promised handmade Christmas gifts or the stuff I will be doing instead.  My new work schedule has been playing havoc with my stitching time, let alone my computer time, but I have decided I am simply going to HAVE to get dh into the housecleaning routine, as much as he hates it!  That should free up a little time for me!  Cross your fingers for me!

Ha! Yep, those 'good ideas' have a way of sneaking up on you! Hugs! And, good luck in teaching hubby new tricks...hee, hee, hee...wish I was a fly on the wall to hear that conversation. Might just want to go out and buy some rose colored glasses...then everything will look better...whether it's clean or not. Hugs!

Homemade edibles are the way to go! Spiced nuts, pepper relish, etc. are easy and will get oohs and aahs :)

Kerry, for the first time ever I'm done Christmas other than making some lotion, salve and lip balms. I decided last year would be my last making gifts because my DIL has much different taste than I and likes very little of what I make. Rather than put all those hours into something that will disappoint, I'm just making little ornament money envelopes. I made a cq cusion for my sister and that's it for me. I miss making gifts but now I have time to get caught up on a lot of other stuff....like painting my kitchen which I finished off yesterday morning very early before I headed off to our local quilting group retreat.

After this hectic Thanksgiving weekend, when visiting family members will return home, I plan to get crackin’ on my handmade Christmas presents, too. I am crocheting little bottle caps and scarves for the neighbors (we give them sparkling cider), make a dozen or so pillowcases, and hopefully throw together burp rags, swaddling blankets and a quilt or two. Yeah, for THIS year, LOL! ;-)

Now, on the subject of DH and housework - he really does need to help out. Bruce does 2/3 of the laundry and in exchange I do 2/3 of the cooking. I clean 2/3 of the bathrooms (he does his one) and he vacuums and takes out the trash. I dust and do the kitchen floors and we split loading/unloading the dishwasher. It works out well, and if he doesn`t do his share, he has to take me out to dinner, LOL!!

So, good luck. I`m gonna get my buns off the computer now and go clean up a space in my studio!

The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high).  From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. BAS - Week 73 - Raised Fishbone Leaves (and Tutorial)

It took me a little while to get this one ready - lots of photos in the tutorial.  This Build a Seam (BAS) Challenge is for Raised Fishbone Stitch leaves.  With a little practice you will get much better results than I did - this was my first attempt on these as well.  For some reason I have basically avoided fishbone stitch but no time like the present to learn!  I hope you enjoy this BAS Challenge! Begin by marking your leaves on your fabric.  You will find it handy to have an outline to follow while stitching.  I used a mechanical pencil to lightly mark mine - hopefully not so lightly you can`t see them! To begin, bring your needle up at the point of the leaf and take it down again about halfway down on the center vein. Now come up again directly to the left of that, on the outside edge of the leaf. Take your needle down again just barely to the right and down from the top leaf point. And bring it up again just barely to the left and down of the point...

Giveaway!

I am feeling like celebrating for various reasons! Firstly, this is my 100th post on my blog and that seems worthy of a little celebration. Secondly, I can now count the days on this year's camping season on my fingers! It has been a busy summer out here at the campground and I am anticipating getting home for a rest - I am so looking forward to hot showers, a real bed, good lighting and my comfy stitching chair!
