Arlene's Summer DYB Round Robin Block

I have just finished my work on the last block in Arlene's Summer DYB Round Robin set of blocks.  They will all be in the morning mail now to Arlene.

The other blocks in the set were all done in bright colours - out of my comfort zone - but I did my best.  Cobi had provided me with the peacock lace motif so I used Adirondack Alcohol Inks to dye it and then added the sequins and beads.  After attaching the motif, I used Whipped Chain Stitch to add some branches (my BAS sample for this week), then added foliage using Raised Leaf Stitch in the same wool as I used for wrapping the chain stitch.  Lastly, I built some bullion stitch flowers with variated perle cotton and sewed a bead into the center of each.  I hope Arlene will like it!

Gorgeous Kerry! I love your choice of colors...and the flowers are my favorite part. Of course, the vine is super as well, that wrapped chain stitch worked up so nice. It is so uniform, it looks like twisted cording...great job!

Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. BAS - Week 79 - Feather Stitch Variations

I have about the next twenty BAS stitches scheduled and by happy coincidence this week's BAS is a series of Feather Stitch variations which coincide with this week's TAST stitch if you are following.  So, we can hit two birds with one stone!  These hardly look like feather stitch but they are.  They are created by making the "v"'s of the feather stitch vertical on the inside.  Very simple to do but a different look to an old stitch.  The second variation is created by doing two feather stitches at a time on each side, again making sure the inside of your "v"s are vertical and line up as much as possible. Same thing again in this one except they are in series of three.  To me these have the look of stitching on old crazy quilts so they are nice to add to your stable of stitch variations.  Hope you  enjoy them and have fun!
