My first "favourite author" when I became interested in crazy quilting was Judith Baker Montano. Learning she was brought up at the Bar X Ranch near me in Alberta, Canada, added to my admiration for her! I have an extra copy of her book, The Art of Silk Ribbon Embroidery, and would like to share it with another crazy quilter. If you would like to put your name in for this draw please leave a comment on this post telling me what you enjoy most about crazy quilting. I am heading out of town for a stitching retreat this weekend so will make the draw on Monday. Good luck!
I am very happy to be joining in the Giveaway Day through Sew, Momma, Sew . I have chosen to share one of my finds from a shopping trip, or treasure hunts as I think of them. This is an antique sewing box - I could not resist it when I saw it for sale! Were you able to guess the item from the sneak peek earlier in the week? The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high). From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk. The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. In the bottom of the sewing box there are more beautiful hand-painted blossoms and an attached pincushion. I hope you are as charmed by this little box as I was when I found it and that you will enter my giveaway. I will be pleased to mail internationally so everyone is invited to enter. To enter, visit my Etsy shop and then come back and leave me a...

As to what I love about CQing, well I guess the most important point is that it's YOUR CREATION, sure you get ideas from other sources, but you can build upon the stitched foundation in various ways that sometimes you have to look closely to see. The girls in this group have been my inspiration to experiment instead of following stitch by stitch from the books.
Thank you for this offer my dear and good luck to whomever receives it.
There are so many things about CQing to love; the history of it, the fact I can never get bored with it, the ability to use it in so many different ways. But I think the best thing is the control factor. When every other thing in your life is out of your control, your CQ still is in your hands. YOU choose what fabrics to use, how to put them together, how to embellish them, and when to declare IT'S DONE! And then you have no one to thank (or blame!) but yourself.

There is no better feeling then thinking of a idea and trying it on a seam and seeing success. Or the feeling you get when you try something new and add a new technique or idea to your quilts. I can not imagine NOT crazy quilting.
I truly believe that anyone can do crazy quilting, because all you need is some time and imagination, each block is unique and special and you get such immense satisfaction with each seam, motif, and embellishment.
I too do not have the book you have for this contest and any cq'ing or SRE book is a dream to have! So thank you for the contest:)
p.s. Great blog!

What I love about CQ Hmm where to start? so many things..being able to use ''scraps'' of beautiful fabric and lace that would otherwise be thrown away and turn into hopefully something beautiful. Its the joy of letting go of cares and aches and losing myself to create. The joy of learning a new technique as I can use almost all lessons taught in our embroidery group.
But best of all....its the sharing with friends together in this craft.

My favorite part is doing Motifs using threads and SRE. Also playing with color and using the threads that will go best with the color of the patch.
the thing I like about cq is that it is a learning experence every time I pull out the bits and pieces of fabric and try to make everything go together, and then try to figure out what to do with the seams (with what I know )I am trying to learn sre by watching and looking at everything thats out their in our groups some times its good sometimes (not so good) but I keep trying. Please put in in for the book And Thank You Dee in Idaho

Plus it's a great reason to purchase all the lace, beads, fancy fabrics, embellishments, etc.. that make my heart sing with joy.

p.s. I don't have a google account and to set one up would navigate me away from this page and I would lose everything I had already typed. Sorry. I also don't have a blog. Oops...I see I can use my AIM identity.
