Another Project - Dresser Set - Done

The little Etsy shop is proving to be a great incentive to get things finished - this time it is a dresser set of handmirror and comb.  I have had these sitting here for awhile, having purchased the set thinking I could take it apart and replace the back decoration with a piece of crazy quilting.  Well, it worked!  And I even managed to get it put back together again! LOL

Here's a bit of a closer look at the crazy quilt section on the back of the hand mirror.

And here is the front of it - that's not very interesting. All in all though, I have to say I love it when a plan comes together - and this one did.

Lovely. Was it difficult to re-assemble the hand mirror?

Very pretty, Kerry. If I actually liked to look in a mirror it would sure be a nice thing to have. I think when the granddaughters get a little older it would be a nice gift for them. You've got me thinking! (that could be dangerous)- Cathy L

Yes Kerry very nice indeed you have given me ideas to look for this kind of thing in the second hand shops and recreate them as gifts, thanks for the inspiration. Linda
I didn't know you could take those things apart without damaging them. What a great idea you had and a wonderful job you did. Thanks for sharing. Connie
Thanks to all the your kind words! I did enjoy taking this apart and making it work. It is the second one I`ve tried. They seem to vary a little in the mechanics from one to another - some cooperate and some don`t quite as easily. Fun though!

What a clever idea you had. And it turned out so well.

Giveaway Day! (CLOSED)

I am very happy to be joining in the Giveaway Day through Sew, Momma, Sew .  I have chosen to share one of my finds from a shopping trip, or treasure hunts as I think of them.  This is an antique sewing box -  I could not resist it when I saw it for sale!  Were you able to guess the item from the sneak peek earlier in the week? The box itself is fairly small, 8 inchs X 6 inchs and 4 inches high (20 cm X 15 cm and 10 cm high).  From my research it is of Asian origin. Inside the sewing box is lined with hand-painted silk.  The inside of the lid features a neat little needlebook. In the bottom of the sewing box there are more beautiful hand-painted blossoms and an attached pincushion.  I hope you are as charmed by this little box as I was when I found it and that you will enter my giveaway.  I will be pleased to mail internationally so everyone is invited to enter. To enter, visit my Etsy shop and then come back and leave me a...

Giveaway!

I am feeling like celebrating for various reasons! Firstly, this is my 100th post on my blog and that seems worthy of a little celebration. Secondly, I can now count the days on this year's camping season on my fingers! It has been a busy summer out here at the campground and I am anticipating getting home for a rest - I am so looking forward to hot showers, a real bed, good lighting and my comfy stitching chair! So, I have decided to celebrate with a giveaway! I think these are great fun and have put my name down for several and even won once so it feels like time to be on the hosting end for a change. I have decided to give away a squishie of items for stitching, embellishing and inspiration. I can't show you a picture right now because of the twist I have come up with! I'll start out with a squishie containing some fun items like an oya or two, specialty threads and fancy yarns, a silkie and a couple other things. For every person who puts their name in the draw by leavi...

400 Post Giveaway

Well, gotta love those nice round numbers like 400! It is always a good excuse to celebrate by having a little giveaway. Every year I anticipate the publication of Just CrossStitch's Christmas Ornament issue. I start watching the newsstands about September and worry I won't manage to find a copy before they are sold out. This little obsession of mine probably explains how I managed to buy two copies! So, I would like to share one with my readers. If you aren't familiar with this magazine - it really is a "keeper"! Seventy-five designers have each provided a Christmas ornament with instructions. These small designs are often useful for making cross stitch cards or as motifs for cq using waste canvas as well. So, this time the draw will be a little different. Enter by leaving a comment on this post - that gives you one entry. If you follow my blog, leave another comment saying so - that gives you a second entry. If you post about the giveaway on your blog, leave a t...
